If you’ve ever thought about doing any kind of bulking cycle the first advice you probably heard was to live by the mantra, “you gotta eat big to be big,” or a variation on a theme. If losing weight is about creating a caloric deficit, then gaining weight is must simply come down to creating a caloric surplus.

However, doing this through whole foods means stuffing yourself at every meal, and even then, those with fast metabolisms still struggle to fit in enough calories. Thanks to supplements like Optimum Nutrition Pro Gainer, the good news for the hardgainers is that there’s an easier way to consume those calories.

Who Should Take Optimum Nutrition Pro Gainer?

High caloric protein powders like Optimum Nutrition’s Pro Gainer are typically used by hardgainers to get in the extra calories they need to create a caloric surplus.
However, Pro Gainer appears to be fairly versatile, and can be used as a decent post-workout recovery drink as well depending on your macronutrients.

What’s Inside Optimum Nutrition Pro Gainer?

One of the first things I noticed about Pro Gainer was high amount of whey protein isolate. This is listed as the first ingredient in the protein blend, and is a high quality type of whey protein that is easily digested and stripped of virtually all fat and lactose.

Each serving contains 60 grams of protein and 85 grams of carbohydrates, along with essential vitamins and minerals such as zinc, selenium, and b-vitamins to boost carbohydrate metabolism and energy.

Like I mentioned above, your post-workout meal should be your biggest of the day, or at least the most calories. I’m not a hardgainer by any means, but by adding an additional scoop of dextrose or oats to this post-workout, it would be a quick and easy recovery supplement.

I haven’t had a chance to try this one yet, so check back soon for a full update and review on Pro Gainer when it becomes available.
