May have only slightly more whey isolate than concentrate 8.4Overall Score Best Protein is BPI’s latest supplement released under their BEST line. I was able to get my hands on a bottle to try it out and see if it is really the “best” protein out there. How Are the Ingredients? Best Protein provides 24 g of whey isolate, whey concentrate, and whey hydrolysate in a protein blend. Whey isolate tends to be about 90% pure protein by weight and is virtually lactose and cholesterol-free. Because of this, whey isolate tends to be a more expensive whey protein form. Whey concentrate provides a good amino profile but still contains small amounts of lactose, which means those who have a hard time digesting dairy products may run into digestion problems with this whey form. However, it’s listed second in the protein blend, leading me to believe that its included amount may be small enough to not cause any trouble. I can’t be 100% sure, though. Whey protein hydrolysate is the product of whey protein undergoing hydrolysis, which is a process that essentially breaks down protein molecules to be more easily digested. The ingredient profile is pretty good. However, I’m not sure I would consider it the “best” protein formula out there. What I Thought I was able to try out the Vanilla Swirl flavor, and it was pretty good. I mixed one scoop with about 6 oz. of water. I mixed it around in my shaker cup for a good 15 seconds. It mixed fairly well and the taste was nice and smooth. Like all supplements I take, I like my flavors more subtle than strong. Taking a strong flavored supplement for a while sometimes gets to me. I found that 6 oz. of water yielded the best flavor. If you’re a fan of vanilla-flavored supplements, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with this flavor formulation. Is It Expensive? BPI Best Protein comes in a 2 lb. tub and a 5 lb. tub. The 2 lb. container provides 28 servings and retails for $30, while the 5 lb. container provides 70 servings and costs $58. The better serving to price ratio is definitely the 5 lb. container. So, if you are looking to supplement with BPI Best Protein for an extended period of time, I recommend getting the bigger size to save money in the long run. Overall, BPI Best Protein is a well-rounded protein powder. It provides a good amount of protein per serving and is physique-friendly. It definitely isn’t the “best” protein powder out there, but it certainly is up there. If you are a fan of BPI, I think you’ll be pleased with Best Protein.
