To round out their natural and whole foods based supplement line, GNC is launching a new amino acid product called PUREDGE Complete Amino. The big difference here of course is going to be the natural flavoring system that’s used.

But just like their other new products, you’ll be surprised at all the ingredients GNC has packed into Compete Amino. Just to cover our bases, in this review we’ll cover why amino acids are so crucial and how they help improve performance. We’ll also answer all your questions about Complete Amino.

BCAA’s Are Best

The first thing worth mentioning is that about one third of the body’s skeletal muscle is comprised of branch chain amino acids, or BCAA’s. Additionally, BCAA’s are heavily utilized for energy during muscle contraction.

By supplementing with BCAA’s during your workout you will not only provide your muscles with additional fuel, but help prevent excessive muscle damage as well. BCAA’s also increase growth hormone levels and reduce recovery time.

Looking Closer At Complete Amino

Each serving is going to give you 5 grams of BCAA’s in a 2:1:1 ratio of leucine, isoleucine and valine. This is the ratio most experts recommend, and is the ratio used in numerous BCAA studies.
Leucine is one of the most important amino acids for growth. It helps build lean muscle by increasing protein synthesis and driving amino acids into muscle cells.

Complete Amino also provides glutamine, an important amino acid that can become depleted during your workout. Glutamine plays an important part in the immune system, helps prevent delayed onset muscle soreness, and increases recovery.

Additional Aminos

Complete Amino contains the amino acids betaine and citrulline, which are shown to improve exercise performance. The body converts citrulline to nitric oxide. This increases vasodilation and blood flow for better muscle pumps.

Betaine used to be relatively obscure, but now I see it in almost every amino acid and pre-workout supplement. It is well-researched, and shown to increase strength, improve body composition, and increase growth hormone levels.

Taste, Value, and Mixability

I really liked the natural flavoring system in Compete Amino, but I’m also “that guy” who enjoys dark chocolate. The fact that this isn’t overly sweet was a huge plus for me, and thought it was one of the better tropical punch flavored powders I’ve tried.

Just like other amino acid products, it’s not going to mix up completely, there’s still going to be some foaming up near the top. Again, this is normal for an amino acid supplement and is to be expected. As far as price goes, expect to pay anywhere from $35-45.

Complete Amino Conclusion

Even if you’re not someone who typically shops for natural supplements, this is definitely one of the better amino acids supplements I’ve seen. It’s going to give you the recommended 2:1:1 BCAA ratio, and also includes betaine and citrulline to boost exercise performance.

Sipping on this during your workout will help you recover faster, prevent excessive muscle damage, and improve muscle growth.
