Muscle Pharm Assault (New Formula) Review

Like any other Dom Toretto enthusiast, I live my life one workout at a time. And when it comes to making each workout count, it’s all about finding the pre-workout that gives you the best muscle pumps and energy to train.

To help you decide if the new Muscle Pharm Assault ultimately earns its space on your supplement shelf, here’s a full review with everything you need to know before buying:

Ingredient Analysis

The new Assault has significantly fewer ingredients, which is definitely a good thing. The old formula has almost as many ingredients as Mumford & Sons has banjo players. With less ingredients to sift through, it’s easier to get an idea of what performance benefits you can expect from Assault.

For example, the new ION-3 Nitrate Technology improves nitric oxide production by combining nitric acid with creatine, arginine, and branch chain amino acids(BCAA’s). Nitrates widen blood vessels, driving oxygen and blood into muscles for better pumps and growth.

As for the creatine, arginine, and BCAA’s:

  • Creatine- Creatine’s ability to improve strength and performance is supported by an overwhelming body of research.

According to the International Society of Sports Nutrition, “Creatine monohydrate is the most effective ergogenic nutritional supplement currently available to athletes in terms of increasing high-intensity exercise capacity and lean body mass during training.” 1

  • Arginine- Arginine is an amino acid which the body converts to nitric oxide. This stimulates greater muscle growth and recovery by flushing more oxygen and nutrients into muscles.

Arginine also enhances body composition by increasing growth hormone levels.

  • BCAA’s- Named for their structural similarity, your branch chain amino acids include leucine, isoleucine, and valine. BCAA’s facilitate faster recovery by preventing muscle damage, stimulating growth hormone release, and increasing strength and endurance.

One study showed subjects ingesting BCAA’s during resistance training experienced a decrease in body fat percent, an increase in lean mass, and increased strength gains.2

Additional key ingredients include:

  • Carnosyn Beta-Alanine- Beta alanine is well-researched, and shown to be effective for delaying fatigue. It saturates skeletal muscle with carnosine and buffers lactic acid so you can push through a few more reps before that burning feeling kicks in.3
  • PurEnergy- Combines caffeine and pterostilbene to increase sustained energy, focus, and prevent you from crashing.

Focus road sign with dramatic blue sky and clouds.

  • Taurine- One of the most abundant amino acids, taurine promotes cellular hydration. This has a cell volumizing effect, shuttling nutrients into cells. Additionally, taurine increases protein synthesis and prevents dehydration.

  • Huperzine A- This compound helps establish the tunnel vision, focus, and concentration needed to boost workout intensity. It also aids memory retention and improves cognitive performance.

My Experience After Taking Assault

Assault isn’t very stimulant heavy, and even though I would’ve liked a little bit more caffeine, it did give me a clean and consistent type of energy. I didn’t crash after my workout or feel jittery/nauseous, which was the best benefit in my opinion.

As far as muscle pumps, I didn’t notice a significant difference between the old and new Assault. I felt a really good pump on arm day, and I’d say Assault is on par with other pre-workouts I’ve tried in the pumps department.

Taste/Mixability

Assault still lives up to its rep of being a good tasting pre-workout. I thought the raspberry lemonade flavor tasted the best. Keep in mind it tastes really good for a pre-workout. I don’t want you to be disappointed if you’re expecting Assault to taste an all-syrup Squishy.
It  also mixes well in a shaker cup. I didn’t have any clumps or leftover residue to worry about.

Final Thoughts/Summary of the new Assault

While I can’t promise that Assault is going to make you lift the entire gym, it does give a clean and smooth energy.  I didn’t feel jittery, sick, or crash after my workout. This, plus the taste and proven ingredients─ BCAA’s, beta-alanine, creatine, make it a solid pre-workout.
