Each bottle is a full 30 day supply and gives you 600 mg of phosphatidylserine per day. ConsOne of the pricier products in MuscleTech's Essential Series Line, breaks down to about a $1.30 a day 8.6Overall Score With all of the different single ingredient products in the new MuscTech Essential Series, it looks they’re going for a “gotta catch ‘em all” type of marketing strategy. One of the more unique and inarguably distinctive products in the Essential Series is the new Platinum Phosphatidylserine, which is an ingredient I’ve only seen in a handful of products. After doing some deep Googling, however, I found some solid research on phosphatidylserine, and am surprised it’s not included in more pre, post, or intra-workout supplements. What Is Platinum Phosphatidylserine? Phosphatidylserine is a compound known as a phospholipid, which reputedly boosts memory and helps fights age-related cognitive decline, alleviate stress, and improve glucose uptake in muscles. It looks like MuscleTech did their due diligence with Platinum Phosphatidylserine, providing a full 30 day supply of phosphatidylserine, at the same 600 mg dosage used in studies. Phosphatidylserine Research In one double-blind, placebo-controlled study, subjects supplemented with either 600 mg of phosphatidylserine or a placebo for 10 days. At the end of the 10 days, researerchers concluded that phosphatidylserine was effective for combating exercise-induced stress and preventing the physiological deterioration which commonly accompanies too much exercise. [1] Another study published in the Journal of Biochemistry and Nutrition showed phosphatidylserine could effectively improve memory functions of the elderly with memory complaints. [2] What’s more, a study conducted with 40 Alzheimer’s patients revealed phosphatidylserine led to greater glucose uptake by the brain, improving brain activity and cognitive functioning. [3] How Phosphatidylserine Translates To Better Performance Ostensibly, the greatest benefits of supplementing with something like phosphatidylserine are the reduced cortisol levels and improved cognitive ability. The stress hormone cortisol cases muscle breakdown, so anything that helps prevent and inhibit that is going to keep the body anabolic and help with improving overall body composition. Additionally, the improved brain activity can help you concentrate and focus during your workout. By zeroing in on every rep, you get a better mind-muscle connection, and are able to stimulate greater muscle growth. Platinum Phosphatidylserine Price and Availability A 30-day supply of Platinum Phosphatidylserine is retailing at most places for around 40. Although this turns out to be one of pricier supplements in the Essential Series, it breaks down to about $1.30 a day, which isn’t a bad price considering it’s dosed effectively and comes from a reputable brand. Adding Platinum Phosphatidylserine To Your Supplement Stack Personally, I didn’t notice any difference in muscle growth when taking Platinum Phosphatidylserine. However, I was also working out 6 days a week at the time and did feel that I had better recovery. Fortunately, you don’t have to take my word for it. The research does show that phosphatidylserine can help reduce cortisol and stress, leading to better muscle growth and recovery. What’s more, Platinum Phosphatidylserine provides a 30 day supply with an efficacious dosage of 600 mg of phosphatidylserine per day.
